Every size, start to finish

Six years working residential of every size — additions, full remodels, new construction — under apprenticeship director Gerald Dix, who took me under his wing early on. I tested for my Master Electrician license and started running full remodel and addition projects myself.

Hospitals, military barracks, and multi-million dollar modernizations

As a third-year apprentice with IBEW Local 1340, I was placed with Carr Electric on commercial contracts including Riverside Hospital in Newport News, the Coast Guard base barracks in Yorktown, and Riverside Behavioral Health Center — including a full electrical modernization at Riverside Hospital, main distribution panel down to the last device. By the end of that year, I was running my own crew with my own apprentice.

I currently work for Tidewater Contracting, running multi-million dollar commercial modernization projects for the VA as foreman — the same scale of work as the Riverside modernization, for the past three years.

Shipyards, gantry cranes, and steam tunnels

Two years at Newport News Shipyard as a first- and second-year apprentice — running conduit 200+ feet up on the shipyard's blue gantry crane in 15°F weather, and working steam tunnels at 135°F wiring gas pumps with explosion-proof fittings and Chico-sealed conduit. I also worked the Ford Blue Oval project and the Amazon Suffolk facility during its construction phase — large-scale industrial builds that test your resolve.
